"You are the Way; through You Alone" (LSB 526) is a straightforward exposition of the words of Jesus in John 14:6, where He says, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me."
Each of the first three stanzas reflects one of the images Jesus used. Stanza one: Jesus is the Way. Stanza two: Jesus is the truth. Stanza three: Jesus is the Life.
The final stanza devotionally restates the previous three stanzas in the form of a prayer.
There is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).
1 You are the way; through You alone
Can we the Father find;
In You, O Christ, has God revealed
His heart and will and mind.
Can we the Father find;
In You, O Christ, has God revealed
His heart and will and mind.
2 You are the truth; Your Word alone
True wisdom can impart;
You only can inform the mind
And purify the heart.
True wisdom can impart;
You only can inform the mind
And purify the heart.
3 You are the life; the empty tomb
Proclaims Your conqu’ring arm,
And those who put their trust in You
Not death nor hell shall harm.
Proclaims Your conqu’ring arm,
And those who put their trust in You
Not death nor hell shall harm.
4 You are the way, the truth, the life;
Grant us that way to know,
That truth to keep, that life to win
Whose joys eternal flow.
Grant us that way to know,
That truth to keep, that life to win
Whose joys eternal flow.
